A Jackson Michigan based portrait painter. Carey Baumgardner, works primarily in acrylic and watercolor. She has had her artwork showcased in the Bright Walls Mural Festival and in local galleries. She is inspired by American realist painter Edward Hopper and his serene, detailed art and the colorful , expressive style of children’s book illustrator, David Catrow.
A teacher by nature, she enjoys being immersed in the arts on a daily basis growing her artistic talents alongside her students. For eight years, she taught art to Kindergarten through eighth grade students at Hanover-Horton public schools before leaving to raise a family. She now works to paint each of them realistically in their own expressive manner. She finds her children to be rather delightful subject matter.
In this latest series, she works to paint portraits of her local animal shelter occupants.
Carey holds a BFA from Adrian College and her dream project would be to illustrate a children’s book.
